Katrina and
the Waves

Katrina & the Waves was een pop-rockband uit de jaren 80 en 90. Hun grootste hit in Nederland & België was Love Shine a Light.
Katrina Leskanich vormde in 1981 in Cambridge de groep, die ze in 1999 verliet. Gitarist is Kimberley Rew die daarvoor bij de Soft Boys speelde.
In 1985 kregen ze de Grammy Award voor Beste nieuwe artiest nadat ze met Walking on sunshine een dijk van een hit hadden.
Daarna bleef het enkele jaren stil rond de groep, maar in 1997 lieten ze weer van zich horen toen ze het Verenigd Koninkrijk vertegenwoordigden op het Eurovisiesongfestival, daar wonnen ze met vlag en wimpel, ze haalden de toenmalige hoogste score ooit met hun lied 'Love shine a light', door 10 keer 12 punten te scoren.
Zes jaar na de split van de groep probeerde Katrina haar eurovisiesucces te herhalen, als Katrina and the new Wave schreef ze zich in voor Melodifestivalen 2005, in een poging om Zweden te vertegenwoordigen. Ze kwalificeerde zich niet voor de finale, maar kon nog herkansen in een tweedekansronde, ook hier faalde ze. Ze trad wel aan als Katrina and the Nameless nadat de originele Waves protesteerden.
